Jim Humphreys, Director
Jim Humphreys graduated in 1978 from Michigan’s Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music after receiving its top award for musical achievement. Jim worked at the Santa Rosa Bible Church where he developed a comprehensive music program that included a children’s choir, youth choir, adult choir and a drama program. Jim now works at the Rincon Valley Christian School, where he directs the instrumental and choral music programs for 4th through 12th grade students. He is also actively involved in the music festivals of the Northern California region of the Association of Christian Schools International.
Jim’s professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the California Music Educators Association, the California Band Directors Association, and the Northern California Band & Choir Directors Association.
Never tired of exploring different musical avenues, Jim also writes music and arranges music for choral voices. The Healdsburg Chorus was thrilled to sing Jim’s challenging arrangement of “You’re Still You” (words and music by Linda Thompson and Ennio Morricone) in the Chorus’s Spring, 2014 concert season.
Susan Nelson, Accompanist
One of the founding members of the Healdsburg Chorus, Susan Nelson started playing piano as a young girl and has had a life-long devotion to it. She studied with the renowned Scottish pianist Reginald Stewart at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California.
Susan has worked with various choirs, choruses and orchestras over the course of her career including the University Singers at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. In addition to piano performance, Susan also sings and plays the flute. The Chorus hopes that Susan’s fingers will be going strong for at least another 25 years.
